Itinerary
DAY 1 Arrival in Lhasa
Upon your arrival in Lhasa, your local tour guide will warmly welcome you at the airport or train station and escort you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and begin acclimatizing to the high altitude.
Day 2 Lhasa City, Potala Palace and Barkhor Street
The tour will begin from UNESCO World Heritage site - Potala Palace, which is also the winter palace of Dalai Lama. It's situated at 12,139 feet above sea level. It's a 13-story high building that contains over 1,000 rooms, various statues, stupas, murals and artifacts. Then continue to Jokhang Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s a spiritual center for Buddhists in Tibet. Next to the temple there is Bakhor Street, filled with pilgrims and street vendors, selling traditional Tibetan items such as prayer wheels and jewelry.
Day 3 Dadong Village Family Visit and Sera
Start your day with a visit to Dadong Village, a peaceful and rarely visited Tibetan village nestled in the countryside. Step into the homes of local families for an authentic glimpse into daily life, traditions, and warm Tibetan hospitality. In the afternoon, head to the historic Sera Monastery—one of Tibet’s three great Gelug monasteries, founded in 1419. Don’t miss the renowned Monks’ Debate, a lively and thought-provoking ritual of Buddhist learning held between 3:00 and 5:00 PM.
Day 4 Lhasa – Gyantse - Shigatse
Begin your scenic drive from Lhasa to Gyantse, passing through the breathtaking Gampala Pass (4,790 m). Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of the stunning Yamdrok-tso Lake (4,400 m), a turquoise gem framed by snow-capped peaks. Continue westward to Gyantse, where you'll explore the renowned Pelkor Monastery and the spectacular Gyantse Kumbum, an impressive multi-storied stupa rich with Buddhist murals and chapels. Afterward, embark on a 1.5-hour drive to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet, where your journey continues amidst a blend of cultural heritage and dramatic landscapes.
Day 5 Everest Base Camp
Drive to Lhatse for a lunch break, then continue towards Shegar. If the weather permits, catch a glimpse of the majestic Mt. Everest from a distance as you descend. The journey to Rongbuk Monastery takes approximately 4 to 6 hours, with a highlight stop at Pang La Pass (5,050m) — one of the highest mountain passes in Tibet. From here, take in a breathtaking panoramic view of five of the world’s highest peaks, including the crown jewel, Everest itself.
Day 6 Everest Sunrise & Return to Shigatse
If the weather is clear, you'll have the unforgettable opportunity to witness the sunrise over Mount Everest from the lodging area—a truly awe-inspiring sight. Afterward, we'll visit Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world, where both monks and nuns live together in harmony. Finally, we'll drive back to Shigatse, taking in the breathtaking landscapes along the way.
Day 7 Tashilhunpo Monastery & Return to Lhasa
This morning, visit the majestic Tashilhunpo Monastery, the spiritual seat of the Panchen Lama and a prominent center of the Gelug sect, founded in 1447. Marvel at the world’s largest gilded statue of Maitreya Buddha and explore the elaborately adorned stupas housing the remains of past Panchen Lamas, enshrined with gold and precious jewels. In the afternoon, embark on a scenic 6-hour drive back to Lhasa.
Day 8 Departure from Lhasa
Enjoy a smooth and hassle-free transfer to the airport or train station.
